Whoever they are, it’s in their interests for most new artists to tap out.
It means they can monetise the hope in the short term, but don’t have to change their own behaviours and systems too frequently in the long run.
Like most important change, good art is more likely when an artist is both persistent and realistic about time horizons.
‘It’s got to happen now’ is just a quick way to hand over power and money to those who intend to be in it for the long run. Not too dissimilar to trying to ‘day trade’ financial markets – usually a bad idea.
After all, the 99.9% who never ‘make it’ are priced into the business model.
The Thoughts of Others
“With a long relationship, things die then are rekindled, and that shared process of rebirth deepens the love. It’s hard work, though, and a lot of people run at the first sign of trouble.” – Joni Mitchell
“Don’t be in haste. When you are in a hurry you are more easily conned or manipulated.” – Kevin Kelly
